Drip Waterer

Home Up

Partially a result of doing the driveway, we found it necessary to arrange automatic watering

of the 20 some garden areas by the house. (This started as a way to get the deck plants watered.)

The pictures below show significant parts of the system and some garden areas they water.

Most garden photos show some 3/4" distribution hose and some 1/4"  hose as well as some

spray/sprinkler heads (Blue or red or black tips).

Some general information about the system follows

  1. Components are made by Orbit, purchased at Home Depot. Starter kits and individual components are available.

  2. About 400 feet of standard 3/4 inch PVC pipe distribute the water to garden areas. 1/4 inch hose feeds the watering heads.

  3. Most pipe is exposed to facilitate easy take offs for drip waterers. The system needs to be adjusted as plants grow or watering needs change for new planting or added drippers.

  4. General controller setting is for 10 minutes every other day

  5. I have 3 distribution valves which run 10  minutes each, in sequence.

  6. The system needs to be blown out to winterize each year, but some automatic drains clear the system after each use.

  7. Initial system cost was about $400, with self installation, but added sprays and take offs have added some cost.
